Acceptance of terms

By creating an account on Alumden, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the platform. Alumden is operated by Alumden Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 17174915 and registered office at 5 Tremlett Mews, London N19 5PP. Questions: hello@alumden.com.

Access and circle membership

Anyone may create an Alumden account. Membership of an individual circle is gated separately: you join a circle by invitation from a current member, by request-to-join approved by a current member, or by starting a new circle for an organisation that does not yet have one (subject to admin approval).

You may not request to join a circle for an organisation you have not actually worked at. Misrepresenting your work history to gain admission to a circle is a breach of these terms and may result in removal of the relevant memberships and termination of your account. We reserve the right to revoke access at any time.

Your account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account. You must provide accurate information during onboarding. You may not impersonate another person or misrepresent your work history. You must be at least 18 years old to use Alumden.

Acceptable use

Alumden is designed for genuine professional networking and career vouching among past colleagues. You agree not to:

  • Use the platform to harass, spam, or deceive other members
  • Vouch for, reference, or leave a note about someone you have not genuinely worked with
  • Submit false, misleading, or defamatory references, notes, or achievements about yourself or anyone else
  • Send requests for input to people you have no genuine working relationship with
  • Scrape, harvest, or commercially exploit other members' data
  • Use the platform for recruiting on behalf of a third-party organisation without disclosure
  • Attempt to circumvent any security or access controls

Endorsements: vouches, references and notes

Alumden lets you endorse people you have worked with by vouching for their achievements, roles, skills and character tags, by writing long-form references, and by leaving notes. (Earlier standalone written vouches have largely been migrated into references.) Each of these is a personal professional endorsement and you are solely responsible for what you submit. It must reflect your honest assessment based on direct working experience, and must not be false, misleading or defamatory. Alumden does not verify the accuracy of endorsements and accepts no liability for hiring or career decisions made in reliance on them. You may decline any request for input without explanation.

References and notes that other people add to your record are shown only after you approve them; you control what appears on your record. When you endorse another member you acknowledge that your endorsement may be read by third parties (including hiring companies), for example when it is attached to a referral or shown on a record shared via a personal link. You may withdraw an endorsement at any time, but content already attached to a sent referral remains with that referral until it is closed or expires.

Requesting and providing input

You may ask people you have worked with to vouch for your work or write a reference, including people who are not yet on Alumden. When you invite someone by email, you confirm you have a genuine working relationship with them and a legitimate basis to contact them at the address you provide. We send a personal, time-limited link; you must not use this feature to send unsolicited or bulk messages.

If you provide input on someone else's record, you grant them and Alumden the right to display your contribution (and your name, title and stated relationship) on that record once they approve it.

CV import and AI features

You may upload a CV to populate your record. By uploading it, you confirm it is yours or that you have the right to upload it. The CV is processed by our AI provider (Anthropic) to suggest structured achievements, education, languages and skills, which are presented to you for review before anything is saved; AI-generated suggestions may contain errors and you are responsible for checking and editing them. Some features may run text you provide through the same AI provider to tidy it. This content is processed only to return the result and is not used to train AI models. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Referral conduct

When you make a referral or receive one through Alumden, you agree to: (a) use information shared with you solely for the purpose of evaluating the referral; (b) not share dossier links with parties outside the hiring process for which the referral was made; (c) not use vouch content or candidate information for commercial purposes outside of the hiring process; (d) respect the candidate's request to withdraw the referral at any time. Breaches may result in loss of access to Alumden.

Dossier link confidentiality

Dossier links are confidential. If you receive a referral via a dossier link, you agree not to publish, forward, or distribute the link beyond the minimum necessary recipients within your hiring process. Alumden may revoke any dossier link that has been shared inappropriately.

Your content

You retain ownership of the content you submit to Alumden (profile information, achievements, references, notes, vouches, skills, and the like). By submitting content, you grant us a limited licence to store and display it as part of the service: to members of your shared circles, to the owner of a record you contribute to (once they approve it), and to specific recipients of a personal link or referral you choose to share it with. We do not claim ownership of your content and will not use it outside of providing the service.

Imported job listings

Alumden may, on request from a current employee of an organisation, import publicly available job listings from that organisation's public careers page so the roles can be surfaced to members of circles that employee is a part of. This feature is strictly opt-in: no listings are imported from an organisation unless at least one current employee of that organisation has explicitly ticked the consent checkbox in their work history settings.

When you tick that checkbox for your current employer, you are giving Alumden permission to periodically fetch publicly listed roles from that employer's official careers page and publish them to circles you are currently a member of. You can withdraw that consent at any time in Settings; from that point onwards, no new listings from that employer will be imported on the basis of your consent. Existing imported listings will continue to be visible in the relevant circles until they expire or are removed.

Imported listings contain only the information that is publicly visible on the employer's careers page (title, location, function, and a link back to the original listing). Alumden does not import any non-public data, does not bypass any access controls, and does not reproduce proprietary content from the employer's site beyond the minimum needed to identify the role and link back to it. If you are the owner or representative of an organisation and want imported listings from your careers page removed or your careers page excluded from future imports, please contact hello@alumden.com.

Privacy

Your use of Alumden is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these terms.

Termination

You may delete your account at any time by contacting hello@alumden.com. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. Upon termination, your data will be handled as described in the Privacy Policy.

Limitation of liability

Alumden is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed £100. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Attributions

This service uses the ESCO classification of the European Commission. We use it in an adapted form: skill labels are matched, deduplicated and supplemented with members' own additions. ESCO is made available by the European Commission for reuse under the European Commission reuse policy.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify active members by email of material changes. Continued use of Alumden after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
